Reflecting on My Writing Journey

My improvement as a writer has been broad and essential in increasing my ability across numerous parts of academic writing throughout the semester. At the start of the term, I had little experience writing formal essays and lacked expertise in APA format, appropriately referencing sources, and completing substantial research. However, I’ve made tremendous progress in these areas because of interesting projects like the Exploratory Essay, Researched Critical Analysis Essay, and Multi-Modal Translation and Presentations. Throughout the semester, I participated in a variety of writing tasks that not only honed my talents but also broadened my awareness of numerous aspects of media and identity. Our first assignment, the Creative Nonfiction Essay, required me to investigate my relationship and experiences with media, requiring an analysis of three or more variables contributing to my identity. This experiment highlighted how media was connected with my personality, acting as an independent component as well as a contributor to existing aspects of myself. It laid the stage for further inquiry into the complicated linkages between media and identity in the following projects.

My comprehension of referencing sources was poor at first, and I required assistance with the complexities of the APA format. However, as the semester proceeded, I made a concerted effort to learn these abilities. This entailed understanding suitable citation methods within the text and creating precise references according to APA requirements. The ability to correctly cite sources and follow formatting guidelines has greatly increased the credibility and professionalism of my work.

Furthermore, my research abilities have substantially improved. At the start of the semester, I struggled to find relevant and trustworthy sources for my essays. However, the Exploratory Essay and Researched Critical Analysis Essay taught me how to evaluate sources, determining their relevance, credibility, and potential biases. This skill improvement enables me to efficiently pick and use relevant material, enhancing the depth and quality of my writing.

In addition, I’ve got a better grasp of various rhetorical methods and how they may be used to develop effective arguments. Techniques like argument, description, and persuasion were components I struggled with at first but have subsequently incorporated into my writing. This development has allowed me to construct more powerful and convincing claims, a skill set that will be helpful in future persuasive writing projects.

In summary, the full skill set gained in this writing course provides a solid basis for success in engineering writing. The accuracy with which I cite sources, my research skills, and my persuasive communication abilities established this semester will surely add to my success in future engineering writing, allowing me to succeed in expressing technical knowledge effectively and professionally.

In conclusion, my writing abilities have improved significantly during the semester, notably in the areas of APA formatting, appropriately referencing sources, performing effective research, and applying convincing rhetorical approaches. These new abilities have not only improved my academic writing but have also created a solid basis for my future academic and professional writing endeavors, allowing me to generate scholarly and captivating material with confidence and precision.
